Entity Definition

Chordata manages six primary entities inherent to our publishing workflow. Select any entity below to learn more.

ContractsLegal document describing the copyright agreement of a specific work
PartnersComposers, arrangers, editors, librettists, etc.
WorksCompositions and arrangements (the intellectual property)
ProductsPublished books and scores, the “tangible manifestation” of a work
AssetsImages, PDFs, audio, and other media associated with other entities
PublishersCompanies that own copyrights to works

Each entry has a page, so when looking for a Product, for instance, you will go to the product’s page. Within that page are field groups, of which, any can be edited by clicking the “edit” button and making edits to the fields within. A field group can only be edited by one user at a time, and a user must save or cancel a field group in order to be able to edit a different field group.

Many entries can be connected to other entries. For example, if a composer edits a band set, their Partner entry (containing their contact information, bio, headshot, etc.) would be connected to the Product entry for the band set. This Product entry would likely also be connected to a Work entry that is, in turn, connected to the Contract that was signed when the work was accepted by the Publisher, which also has its own entry. Because of this connectivity, it is possible to create very powerful search queries to satisfy most workflow needs.
