Derivative Products

One of Chordata’s shining features is it’s ability to create products that are related to each other. This can be done but creating a new product and then adding a product in the appropriate section of Related Product section of the entity page. However, this can be tedious if the products share much of the same data (as Score and Parts and Full Score products would). To streamline this process, Chordata offers methods to create different kinds of derivative or related products. These can be found at the top of the page in the Add New Derivative Product dropdown menu.

There are 4 kinds of derivative shortcuts: Direct, Digital, Digital Audio, and Edition.

Direct Derivative

Direct Derivative products are generational. When you create a Direct Derivative product, you are creating a child product. This process will copy in most data from the parent, but will leave several import fields blank for the user to fill in such as the SKU, Product Status, Barcodes, Price, Category, Website Settings, and Components.

Edition Derivative

Edition Derivative products are not generational and are a flavor of nonhierarchical product relationships. This process will copy the same data fields as the Direct Derivative product and is especially useful for creating editions of products that are large score, spiral bound, or if a digital product is desired without Components.

Digital and Digital Audio Derivative

These processes will also create a nonhierarchical product relationship with the Edition flavor but do not leave as many fields blank. They will append the designated suffix to the SKU (D for Digital and DA for Digital Audio), fill in the necessary product categories, and set the Delivery Method in the product status to Digital. The Digital product’s components will also undergo a conversion process; the Digital Audio’s product components will remain blank.
